Tips on Foot Care: Ankle Sprain?

An ankle sprain occurs when an abnormal twisting occurs between the bones of the ankle.  This can lead to severe overstretching or tearing of the ligaments on the outside of the ankle joint.  The result is pain, swelling, and/or bruising of the ankle.  If left untreated, an ankle sprain can lead to further complications.
In the event of an injury, rest the area, apply ice and elevate the foot to control pain and swelling.  Make an appointment with your podiatrist to ensure proper diagnosis and treatment.
